PAINTINGS & SCULPTURES
Lucchese mythology is at the heart of Nicoletta Cerasomma's abstract works. The project stems from artistic experimentation and is a manifestation of her practice as an interdisciplinary artist. The dark elements show the influence of minimalism through a visual language that evokes natural elements and legendary figures from an ancient world. The use of mineral-toned gold leaves adds a poetic and shimmering aspect to her works. This is a way to give continuity to the mythology of worlds and characters, to evoke archetypal stories that open uncommon paths, leading out of everyday life and culminating in an ascent to a world full of wonders. Her idea is to create a unique aesthetic space where the conceptual meets the visual.
The language is deliberately abstract, rarefied, and timeless. Color and symbolism are deeply correlated to emphasize the image. Color is often used to communicate an emotion or feeling, but the lack of color also holds significant meaning. Gold leaf and paint represent the impermanence of trauma's vulnerability transforming into hope. In many of her works, the use of red indicates life, blood, and violence, while black recalls the oneiric, alienation, melancholy, and nostalgia for what is forever lost. The absence of color signifies unreality. This multilayered technique addresses the trauma experienced and the expectation of a bright future.
