PAINTINGS & SCULPTURES

Lucchese mythology is at the heart of Nicoletta Cerasomma's abstract works. The project stems from artistic experimentation and is a manifestation of her practice as an interdisciplinary artist. The dark elements show the influence of minimalism through a visual language that evokes natural elements and legendary figures from an ancient world. The use of mineral-toned gold leaves adds a poetic and shimmering aspect to her works. This is a way to give continuity to the mythology of worlds and characters, to evoke archetypal stories that open uncommon paths, leading out of everyday life and culminating in an ascent to a world full of wonders. Her idea is to create a unique aesthetic space where the conceptual meets the visual.

The language is deliberately abstract, rarefied, and timeless. Color and symbolism are deeply correlated to emphasize the image. Color is often used to communicate an emotion or feeling, but the lack of color also holds significant meaning. Gold leaf and paint represent the impermanence of trauma's vulnerability transforming into hope. In many of her works, the use of red indicates life, blood, and violence, while black recalls the oneiric, alienation, melancholy, and nostalgia for what is forever lost. The absence of color signifies unreality. This multilayered technique addresses the trauma experienced and the expectation of a bright future.

Emozioni

Their simple, geometric, and natural forms evoke a poetic and spiritual sense. The motifs reveal the essence of a shape illuminated by gold leaf that captures and reflects the light. The tones are carefully chosen, the depicted motifs, and the materials resonate archetypically. In doing so, the work aims to evoke an aesthetic emotion in the viewer that enhances our cultural heritage. The works conceal an existence previously obscured or struggling in the dark to reach the surface. In this context, the gold leaf is used to create an illusion of light and hope, just like in his photographic images.

Scaccomatto

"My soul is trapped in the intrigue Your thoughts are impenetrable but your aura radiates the space." In this context, the viewer is invited to experience a kind of memory of past experiences and enter the author's imagination.

Vanitas

Memory rests on the black of darkness and the gold of its light. One is confronted with a scene of a woman struggling with her inner self. The woman, trapped by the need to incessantly appear rather than be, conforms herself to the expectations of the community, resulting in an ongoing and heartrending internal conflict. The construction of the self takes the form of a kind of sculpture: it reveals itself to the observer and is confined within the space of a frame.

Quattro Elementi per uno Sguardo

A golden stone lies on a black, interpretive panel. "QUATTRO ELEMENTI PER UNO SGUARDO" invites the audience to question altered landscapes, the earth and their origins, and the connection between human beings and their values. The work retains a realistic natural element of pebbles found by the river, but in this context, it is a monument. Embellished with gold leaf, it becomes a powerful celebration of the beauty of nature and our land. The flowers evoke a distance from the natural world that simultaneously calls to mind an intimate and emotional distance.

La Guardiana

There are rooms within each person that are kept closed, where we hide secrets even from ourselves. We have always had the key to the door, but we have forgotten it. Once these places are opened, they reveal secrets, treasures, and demons. And it is precisely within those unexplored rooms of our consciousness that, like an epiphany, we find our truest self. It was waiting to be discovered, like all the greatest treasures. In those dark and dusty corners of our mind, we rediscover our place in this wonderful world.

Ombra Scura

"I was once a child too. I was born to the wrong parents. Poor parents, peasant parents, servant parents. I was dirty. I was the unnamed one. I was without a name. The one who bears the shame imposed by others. The accused, the pointed-at one! The one who, if things had been different, would have lived a completely different life. Since reaching this state, I see only shadows. Growing up, I became a cryptic and refined woman."

Sguardo Ipnotico

This work is a metaphor for a continuously violated body and a crime that has always gone unpunished. Within the space of a frame, the trampled, despised, and ignored dignity of women is represented. It reflects the unmet respect for that which, although not ours, belongs to us and justifies us. But the soul cannot be removed. It can change—like a snake shedding its skin. It is what makes us whole despite the damnation. It is what frightens the most.

Silent Voice

"Silent Voice" arises from a reflection on the multitude of circumstances that make women vulnerable, the barriers they must face, and the invisibility of their true selves. "Silent Voice" explores female identity in a historically biased world.
