Fault Line

The artwork explores the journey of healing, from wound to restoration. The first image reveals a superimposed face, a fragment of an identity marked by the past. The second, the beating heart of the piece, holds a ritual of care: the delicacy of washi paper clashes with the necessity of stitching. Each stitch is a wound closing, a gesture of resistance and transformation. The third panel, featuring the therapist’s text, weaves together art and psychology, delving into the folds of awareness and the overcoming of internalized patterns. The composition creates a dialogue between images and consciousness, restoring the possibility of rebirth.

Often, the choice of a partner is closely linked to the behavioral patterns we internalized during our formative years, when we were unconscious witnesses to stories and mandates. We tend to choose what we know, learning these behavioral modes through imitation. Growing up in a context where violent behaviors are repeatedly and consistently enacted by key adult figures can be considered a significant risk factor for developing antisocial, violent, and abusive behaviors in adulthood.

The internalization of such models can hinder the achievement of critical milestones in the social development of the self, potentially leading to psychopathological symptoms in adulthood that make it difficult to adapt to social contexts.

Both those who perpetrate violence and those who endure it, placing themselves in risky situations, stem from the same matrix, one that generates wounds that are difficult to heal.
