Never alone again

All the rebel women

In 1976, Italian feminism mobilized for the first time in a rape trial, demanding an open court to denounce the bias of the law and institutional violence. This event led to the approval of Law 66/1996 against sexual violence, a milestone in victim protection and the fight for women's rights. In the 1980s and 1990s, the feminist movement became entrenched in cultural and political institutions, addressing the gender pay gap and workplace harassment. The fourth wave of feminism, emerging in the 2010s, is distinguished by the use of social media and a focus on intersectionality, with movements like #MeToo and “Non una di meno” fighting against harassment and violence, also involving men in the fight against gender stereotypes.

Forms of violence that states must include in their criminal codes:

• Psychological violence

• Stalking

• Physical violence

• Sexual violence, including rape

• Forced marriage

• Female genital mutilation

• Forced abortion and forced sterilization

• Sexual harassment

• Complicity in these crimes
